Richard B. Dunn (14 December 1927 - 29 September 2005) was an American astronomer and former director of the National Solar Observatory. Dunn was a pioneer in solar physics.

Dunn studied and earned his doctorate at Harvard University and worked at Sacramento Peak in Sunspot from 1953. He worked on solar physics and developed a unique solar telescope here. In January 1998, Dunn was awarded the George Ellery Hale Prize of the American Astronomical Society for "outstanding contributions to the field of solar astronomy over an extended period of time". In 1998, Dunn was honoured by the National Science Foundation (NSF) for his lifetime achievements. The Vacuum Tower Telescope (VTT) at Sacramento Peak in New Mexico was renamed the Richard B. Dunn Solar Telescope.
