Gliese 1 (Gl 1 o GJ 1) en una estrella enana roja de la constelación Sculptor, situada en el hemisferio sur celeste. Dado que se sitúa muy cerca del origen de coordenadas de ascensión recta, es la primera estrella del catálogo de Henry L. Giclas y Luyten Half-Second. Es una de las estrellas más cercanas al Sol, dista aproximadamente 14.2 años luz. Sin embargo es muy difícil de observar a simple vista. El tipo espectral de esta estrella ha sido estimado entre M1.5V to M3.0V por varios autores. La estrella además posee un alto movimiento propio. Este fue notado por primera vez en 1885[1] por Benjamin A. Gould (la estrella se identifica en el Catálogo de Zonas de Córdoba por 23h 1584).

Gliese 1 ist ein Roter Zwerg im Sternbild Bildhauer am südlichen Sternenhimmel. Er ist mit 14,2 Lichtjahren einer der sonnennächsten Sterne. Wegen seiner Nähe zur Erde ist er ein häufiges Studienobjekt, weshalb viel über seine physikalischen Eigenschaften und seine Zusammensetzung bekannt ist. Allerdings ist er mit einer scheinbaren Helligkeit von 8,5 mag viel zu lichtschwach, um ohne ein Teleskop beobachtet werden zu können.

Gliese 1 is a red dwarf in the constellation Sculptor, which is found in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is one of the closest stars to the Sun, at a distance of 14.2 light years. Because of its proximity to the Earth it is a frequent object of study and much is known about its physical properties and composition. However, with an apparent magnitude of about 8.6 it is too faint to be seen with the naked eye.
