NGC 5474 es una galaxia enana peculiar en la constelación de la Osa Mayor. Es una de las numerosas galaxias satélite que acompañan a la Galaxia del Molinete (M101), una galaxia espiral de gran diseño,[3][4] siendo la más próxima a la M101.

La interacción gravitatoria entre NGC 5474 y la Galaxia del Molinete ha distorsionado fuertemente la galaxia. Como resultado, el disco y el núcleo están en una relación inusual.[4][5] La formación de estrellas en esta galaxia (como señala línea espectral de emisión de Hidrógeno) se produce fuera del núcleo.[5] NGC 5474 muestra algunos signos de una estructura en espiral. Como resultado, esta galaxia se clasifica a menudo como una galaxia espiral enana, un grupo relativamente raro de galaxias enanas.

NGC 5474 ist eine spiralförmige Zwerggalaxie vom Typ Sc im Sternbild Großer Bär und 17 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt. Sie wurde am 1. Mai 1788 von William Herschel entdeckt.[3]

NGC 5474 is a peculiar dwarf galaxy in the constellation Ursa Major. It is one of several companion galaxies of the Pinwheel Galaxy (M101), a grand-design spiral galaxy.[4][5] Among the Pinwheel Galaxy's companions, this galaxy is the closest to the Pinwheel Galaxy itself.[4] The gravitational interaction between NGC 5474 and the Pinwheel Galaxy has strongly distorted the former. As a result, the disk is offset relative to the nucleus.[4][6] The star formation in this galaxy (as traced by hydrogen spectral line emission) is also offset from the nucleus.[6] NGC 5474 shows some signs of a spiral structure. As a result, this galaxy is often classified as a dwarf spiral galaxy, a relatively rare group of dwarf galaxies.
