Die Maffei-Gruppe, Maffei-1-Gruppe oder IC-342/Maffei-Gruppe oder auch LGG 104 ist mit einer Entfernung von rund 10 Millionen Lichtjahren die der Lokalen Gruppe nächstgelegene Galaxiengruppe.

Ihre hellsten Mitglieder sind Maffei 1, eine elliptische Riesengalaxie oder linsenförmige Galaxie im Sternbild Kassiopeia, und IC 342, eine Spiralgalaxie vom Typ SAB(rs)cd im Sternbild Giraffe. Die Galaxie Maffei 2 wird inzwischen ebenfalls zu ihr gezählt. Insgesamt werden der Gruppe derzeit 24 Mitglieder zugerechnet.[1][2] Die Galaxien Maffei 1 und Maffei 2 liegen in der von der Milchstraße verdeckten Zone und wurden erst 1968 durch Auswertung von Infrarotaufnahmen von dem italienischen Astronomen Paolo Maffei entdeckt.

The IC 342/Maffei Group (also known as the IC 342 Group or the Maffei 1 Group) corresponds to one or two galaxy groups close to the Local Group. The member galaxies are mostly concentrated around either IC 342 or Maffei 1, which would be the brightest two galaxies in the group.[1] The group is part of the Virgo Supercluster.[2] However, recent studies have found that the two subgroups are unrelated; while the IC 342 group is the nearest galaxy group to the Milky Way, the Maffei 1 group is several times farther away, and is not gravitationally bound to the IC 342 group.[3][4]

El Grupo Maffei (también conocido como el Grupo IC 342) es la segunda agrupación galáctica más cercana al Grupo Local; se piensa que en el pasado pudo formar parte del Grupo Local, pero fue expulsado en un violento encuentro con la galaxia de Andrómeda. Sus miembros más importantes son las galaxias espirales IC 342 y Maffei II, y la galaxia elíptica gigante Maffei I, que junto con Maffei II, fue descubierta en 1968 con láminas infrarrojas por el astrónomo italiano Paolo Maffei. Ambas galaxias se encuentran cerca del ecuador galáctico en Casiopea en la denominada zona vacía y están por ello muy oscurecidas por el polvo y el gas en longitudes de onda visibles. Maffei 2 es una galaxia espiral barrada a unos 16 millones de años luz de distancia, mientras que la distancia de Maffei I se ha establecido en unos 10 millones de años luz. Otras galaxias conocidas en el grupo son Dwingeloo 1 y su galaxia satélite Dwingeloo 2, así como otros sistemas más pequeños, incluyendo dos posibles satélites de Maffei I (MB1 y MB2).
