NGC 2227 is a barred spiral galaxy with a morphological type of SB(rs)c[5] located in the direction of the Canis Major constellation. It was discovered on January 27, 1835, by John Herschel.[6]

In 1986, a type Ia supernova with an apparent magnitude of 14.0 was detected within NGC 2227, and was designated SN 1986O.[7]

NGC 2227 ist eine Balken-Spiralgalaxie vom Hubble-Typ SBc im Sternbild Großer Hund südlich des Himmelsäquators. Sie ist schätzungsweise 93 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 60.000 Lj. Im selben Himmelsareal befindet sich u. a. die Galaxie NGC 2223.
