NGC 4744 is a barred lenticular galaxy located about 160 million light-years away[2] in the constellation Centaurus.[3] NGC 4744 was discovered by astronomer John Herschel on June 8, 1834.[4] It is a member of the Centaurus Cluster.[5][6]

NGC 4744 ist eine 12,7 mag helle, Linsenförmige Galaxie vom Hubble-Typ SB0-a[2] im Sternbild Zentaur am Südsternhimmel. Sie ist schätzungsweise 142 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 90.000 Lichtjahren. Im selben Himmelsareal befinden sich u. a. die Galaxien NGC 4706, NGC 4729, NGC 4730, NGC 4743.
