NGC 940 is a lenticular galaxy in the constellation Triangulum. It is estimated to be 222 million light-years from the Milky Way[3] and has a diameter of approximately 80,000 ly. NGC 940 was discovered by Heinrich d'Arrest.[4][5][6]

NGC 940 ist eine linsenförmige Galaxie vom Hubble-Typ S0 im Sternbild Dreieck am Nordsternhimmel. Sie ist schätzungsweise 234 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 80.000 Lj. Im selben Himmelsareal befinden sich u. a. die Galaxien NGC 917, NGC 931, IC 1800.

NGC 940 (другие обозначения — UGC 1964, MCG 5-6-50, ZWG 504.95, ARAK 85, IRAS02264+3125, PGC 9478) — линзообразная галактика (S0) в созвездии Треугольник. Открыта Генрихом Луи д’Арре в 1865 году. Описание Дрейера: «тусклый, маленький объект круглой формы, более яркий в середине»[4].
