NGC 740 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the Triangulum constellation. It is estimated to be 210 million light-years from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 85,000 light-years. It was discovered by the Irish engineer Bindon Stoney, an assistant to William Parsons.[5][6][7]

NGC 740 ist eine Balken-Spiralgalaxie vom Hubble-Typ SBb im Sternbild Dreieck am Nordsternhimmel. Sie ist schätzungsweise 212 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 85.000 Lichtjahren. Im selben Himmelsareal befinden sich u. a. die Galaxien NGC 736, NGC 738, NGC 739, NGC 750.
