NGC 4183 is a spiral galaxy with a faint core and an open spiral structure located about 55 million light-years from the Sun. Spanning about eighty thousand light-years, it appears in the constellation of Canes Venatici. NGC 4183 was observed for the first time by British astronomer William Herschel on 14 January 1788.

The galaxy is part of the Ursa Major Cluster.[3]

NGC 4183 ist eine Spiralgalaxie vom Hubble-Typ Sc[2] mit ausgedehnten Sternentstehungsgebieten im Sternbild Jagdhunde am Nordsternhimmel. Sie ist schätzungsweise 44 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 65.000 Lichtjahren. Die Galaxie hat einen schwach erscheinenden Kern und eine offene Spiralstruktur, die allerdings nicht direkt betrachtet werden kann, da der Blick von der Erde aus, ähnlich wie auch im Falle der Andromedagalaxie, auf die Seite des Objekts fällt.[4] Sie ist Teil des Ursa-Major-Galaxienhaufens und Mitglied der NGC 4051-Gruppe (LGG 269).
